Common Questions
-
The Giving Machines are different from typical vending machines. Instead of buying a candy bar, you can purchase essential items such as clothing, medicine, food, even livestock, and more for local and global charities.
The Giving Machine is a popular and visible piece of Light the World, the annual Christmas and Holiday initiative sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and its global charity, Latter-Day Saints Charities.
Since 2016, Light the World has invited the global community to extend love and kindness by serving others. These customized red vending machines provide a unique, memorable, fun way to give to those in need – locally or around the world. Since 2017 over $32 million (USD) has been donated on behalf of those who are most vulnerable, without regard to race, religion, or nationality!
-
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all operational costs for the Light the World Giving Machine initiative. Individual credit card transaction fees are covered by the donor or the Church. As such, participating nonprofit organizations receive 100% of every donation to purchase and deliver your selected item(s).
Occasionally, it becomes necessary to make an item substitution to meet unexpected needs. When this occurs, replacement products or services remain in the same category as the original.
-
The Giving Machines only accept credit card and mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) at our locations.

#LightTheWorld is an invitation to transform Christmas into a season of service. It’s a worldwide movement to touch hearts and change lives by doing the things Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone. Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). #LightTheWorld is the perfect way to let our light—and His light—shine brightly.
Each year at Christmas, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes a monumental effort to spread the message and mission of #LightTheWorld. However, you can do it all year by thinking about who you can serve every day.
